Our Franz Werner Concert viola comes from the rich, complex German tradition of instrument making. This eloquent and energetic viola is a great choice for the advancing pre-professional player working on refining musical technique. The sweet and balanced tone of this beautifully carved instrument, will bring a sophisticated element to your performances.
The Franz Werner Concert viola is carved from quality tone-woods. Spruce top of medium grain. Two-piece back of light, narrow to broad flame. Ribs and scroll similar to back. Slightly antiqued and finished in a spirit varnish of a red-brown on a golden ground. Each viola is shop adjusted by our experienced, in-house (Tucson, AZ) luthiers, to assure excellent playability. Outfits include #VACR7 Kaplan rosin. Your choice of case and bow. Made in Germany.

Excellent service- and the sound on this instrument is incredible.
I started lessons as an adult and was allowed to borrow a beautiful instrument from my instructor- and after looking into buying my own- I am glad I went with the high price point- I don’t see myself ever replacing this
Side note- mine was made in 2020, it’s possible that extra love went into this Covid made piece- or maybe I like to imagine that the process of making it was as enjoyable as playing it.

Set-up was ok. Neck was and is way to thick to get around comfortably. Really needs to be whittled down. That would make playability so much better. Speaking of playability…adjustment to the soundpost would be appreciated…C and G strings were a bit flabby until adjustment was made. Other than those somewhat niggling things ….not bad. Could be a lot better with a little TLC. Def. ask for a smaller circumference neck. It’s a bit 2X4ish.
