  3. Disappointed

    Patricia (verified owner)

The bow arrived a day early. It was an exact replacement for a bow I bought my daughter three years ago. The old bow began to break in an odd spot. My daughter’s professors all said they’d never seen an ‘injury’ like this before. Today, while at rehearsal, the new bow suddenly just snapped, almost in the same place. She has had the bow less than a month. We are very disappointed, and even though my daughter really likes this bow, we won’t be trying it for a third time.

  4. Best student bow for the money

    Jim Mothersbaugh (verified owner)

just finishing my 28th year as a public school strings teacher. I have used and recommended this bow over any other bow through $150 for years and years. It has everything that the competitors don’t: Full-lined frog made from quality ebony, consistent weight, balance, and strength of the stick, good windings and thumb leathers, tips that stay on, and NO SUPER GLUE boogering up the mortises. Can be rehaired easily, unlike those Bow Shaped Objects from Michigan!

  5. Best bow under $100. Absolutely.

We have six of these among my friends in our college orchestra, and two of my teachers use them regularly. Our school has a few of the entry level ArcoNuveau bows for our string techniques classes as well. I’ve had fantastic customer service from Southwest Strings as well, with generous return/exchanges when there was one bow that I didn’t like. They swapped it out quickly. I’d say we’ve used these for about 6 years now. We’re about to order more, not as replacements, but as additions.

I do recommend trying two bows from each level if you’re unsure, because even with great specs, every bow is different in its own way. Even carbon fiber can’t escape that truth.
