Description

The Pirastro Perpetual Edition cello strings are available as a set as well as having the option of the Candenza G and C.
The Perpetual line is also available in Medium and Solo as well.

As a musician put it – the Perpetual Edition are the most power-packed strings in our program. Tone by tone the shine of this new string radiates into the room without sounding metallic or sharp. Like having a palette in their hands, the Perpetual Edition provides the musicians with every tonal color from a focused bright sound to a room filling warmth. With their sonority, volume, and flexibility the new Perpetual Edition fulfills the players’ desire for projection in an impressive way while maintaining an inspiring light playability. The Perpetual Edition strings offer an exceptional nice bow resistance which results in a very fast and direct response especially on the lower strings.

The A and D have a steel core and are wound with Chrome-steel. The G and C have a rope core and are wound with Tungsten.

A variation to the G and C is also available. The “Cadenza” G and C offer a lower tension which relieve pressure on the cello, a welcome possibility for vintage instruments. This lower tension also allows the A and D to vibrate more easily, gaining prominence while also remaining dynamic and warm. The Cadenza G and C are also tungsten wound on a rope core.
The standard Perpetual Edition set includes:

  • A: Chrome-steel over steel
  • D: Chrome-steel over steel
  • G: Tungsten over rope core
  • C: Tungsten over rope core

The Perpetual Cadenza G and C are available separately:

  • G: Tungsten over rope core
  • C: Tungsten over rope core
Recommended rosin is Pirastro Evah Pirazzi Gold.

  3. This is a modern metal

    Dan (verified owner)

This is a modern metal string with a lot of power, character and nuance. I think that on bright instruments they could sound rather brash, but on darker instruments could sound really quite luminous. Unless you’re a soloist and need a lot of volume, I think it might be a good idea to go with the lower-tension, “weich” options at first, and then work into the higher tensions as you discern a need for them.

  4. Southwest Strings Came through for Me

    Gary (verified owner)

I placed an order for cello strings and FedEx placed the envelope on the landing of my porch in full view of the street. My wife and I suspect the envelope was opened and the strings removed prior to delivery because usually porch pirates grab the package and run. I called Southwest and the kind customer service representative replaced the order and I received my strings through USPS. Yay! They sound great. Thank you to Southwest Strings.
