Obligato “D”:
– 3-4 day break-in period
– Warm and colorful tone with some brilliance as well
– Notes blend well with Obligato “G” and a warmer “A” string
– Plays well in every octave
– *Open “D” can be contrastingly bright compared to other notes on the string
– *Can be difficult to blend open “D” with the notes on the Obligato “G”
Obligato “G”:
– 1 week break-in period
– Edgier sound before breaking in
– Warm, colorful and slightly focused tone
– Blends well with both the Obligato “D” and Obligato “C”
– *Response can be troublesome at times
– *May exacerbate wolf-tone
– Plays well in the first two octaves
– *Okay-ish sound beyond that
Obligato “C”:
– 1 week break-in period
– Edgier sound before breaking in
– Warm, open, mellow tone
– *Struggles above the first octave
– 1st position blends well with the Obligato “G”
– *Sounds a little more open than the Obligato “G” beyond 1st position
