Description
Thomastik-Infeld’s Dominant Pro is a new and improved version of the original classic. Designed with the modern professional in mind, they provide an expanded range of color and brilliance, while enhancing the warmth and radiance of the original Dominant strings. Whether they are played loudly or quietly, the immediate reaction and balance of tonal qualities can be heard right away. After a short break in time, hints of a rounder, fuller sound begin to emerge.
What’s the Difference?
The Silver D offers a more refined bow noise, brilliance, and pronounced sound color with excellent modulation capacity. Compared to conventional Silver D strings, this novel silver alloy is more responsive to the bow and does an excellent job of suppressing wolf tones.
The Aluminum D is the preferred choice if your instrument requires more brilliance and projection capacity. Aluminum wound strings are even more responsive to the bow compared to Silver. This Aluminum wound D has a larger diameter than the Silver D, which may be preferable for some players.
- Exceptionally powerful
- Good balance of brilliance & warmth
- Broad range of sound colors
- Supports the radiance of the instrument
- Reacts immediately with a focused sound core
- A sound that fills the room
- Bell-like tonal character
- High resistance to bow pressure
- Suitable for soloists
- Very high dynamic level (can be played very quietly and very loudly)

Strings are easy to break in. Sound is great for solo work. Can relax a bit in orchestral settings.

These strings sound really nice. They project sound really nicely and have a great tone! I last used normal Dominant strings, but now, Dominants pro strings will always be my go-to for my violin.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have Dominants, except they never break in?
Dominant Pros are the string for you. Bright, responsive, and easy to play, these strings have a one-dimensional metallic sound. Though loud in volume, they project poorly due to a lack of overtones and though they can take seemingly unlimited bow pressure without the sound cracking, there is virtually no possibility for dynamic modulation. Annoy your stand partner in orchestra, be unheard in solos!
The E was open and sweet for approximately 2 hours before going dead and false. I have to give TI the benefit of the doubt and assume it was actually just defective.
I am giving two stars because the G and D are indeed remarkably easy to play. You can go as high as you want with no choking of the sound and the wolf tone on C on my instrument nearly went away. These strings may be useful individually to correct specific problem areas with a violin, but the set as a whole cannot be recommended.
