Description

Pirastro Chorda violin strings are plain gut strings with very low tension for an authentic Baroque performance. In the standard set, the E, A, and D strings are unwound gut, while the G string is wound silver-plated copper with a gut core.

The medium-gauge strings are designed to be tuned at 440 Hz;

For 415-Hz tuning, please consider the “strong” gauge strings.
The tailpiece end of the E, A, and D come without a knot, and the G comes with the knot already tied.

Gauges:

Chorda strings are manufactured in three gauges in steps of 1/4 PM.
Altering the gauge by 1/4 PM changes the tension by 3%.

Alternate G-string winding:
  • Plain copper: available in three gauges in steps of1/4 PM and it has a darker sound than the standard silver G-string.
Standard set contains:

Estring: Plain gut

  • Medium: 11 1/2 PM

Astring: Plain gut

  • Medium: 14 1/2 PM

Dstring: Plain gut

  • Medium: 19 1/2 PM

Gstring: Silver-plated copper wire (unpolished)

  • Medium: 16 PM
For best results, Pirastro Eudoxa rosin is recommended.

There isn’t much to say, really. This traditional plain gut A has been on the market for many years. Excellent response, exceptional tone.
