Il Cannone Violin Strings
Il Cannone celebrates Paganini’s legacy with what we believe to be a truly revolutionary sound. In the design and development process here at Larsen we always aim to produce the exceptional but it is only during the testing and trial process with hands-on musicians that we can truly know for certain.
And we would seem to have succeeded. The feedback from musicians has confirmed that playability and feel on the fingerboard is excellent with a good resistance to the bow. Designed to bring out the best in your violin, Il Cannone individual strings and sets are available as two versions. The Medium variant has a more moderate tension with an open, colorful, projecting, richer and powerful sound whilst the Soloist brings a fuller tone, with even more presence and focus.
Warm & Broad A
We have completed extensive trials testing Il Cannone Warm & Broad A alongside the standard A. We listened to your feedback and are pleased to announce that the Il Cannone Warm & Broad A for Medium and Soloist is now available as a permanent option to suit your style and your instrument in addition to the standard A.
0.28 Strong E
In addition to power and brilliance it would seem that we have succeeded in countering those unwanted frequencies. By design and by review the 0.28 is rapidly gaining a reputation as a true non-whistling E.
String Details
The Il Cannone E string, also available with a dedicated loop option, is made using a unique carbon steel, while the A, D and G strings build on a new, synthetic multi-filament core. The A string is wound with precision rolled aluminum flat wire and the D and G strings are wound with pure silver. Available as sets or as individual strings. Soloist variants marked with a red band on packaging. Warm & Broad A as labelled.
Il Cannone Direct & Focused
Il Cannone Violin Direct & Focused in Medium & Soloist editions produce a silvery and lustrous clarity of sound to enrich your style and instrument. Aimed at leading professionals and soloists as well as inspiring aspiring student and amateur violinists, we have developed an entirely new synthetic core at the heart of this new sound. Combining a new winding process we have further enriched the colors of this unique new formulation.
The Direct & Focused sets have already travelled the world. Tested with musicians extensively in Europe, North America and Asia on both new instruments and old Italian instruments including Strads and del Gesu. Violinists describe the strings as having empowered the whole instrument with more color possibilities, more clarity, more edge and greater gain.

Replaced Larsen IL Cannone violin strings after two months with the solo version. The solo strings produce a warm sound on my bright violin. The tone carries from the tip to the frog on the bow. Pizzicato warmly resonates without twanging at forte.

I wanted to try something new and had seen good reviews on these strings. Oh. My. Gosh! I love these and they sound amazing on my violin. Very nice clarity, resonance, projection and balance. I typically use Eudoxa A, D, G and Warchal Amber E. I paired the soloist version D, G, Soloist Warm and Broad A and the Warchal Amber E. Honestly, they sounded amazing right away and I’m really excited to see how they settle in the coming days. 10 stars!
