Description

The Warchal Brilliant cello strings are intended for players who want a full, projecting sound with rich overtones. These strings really enhance the character of the instrument.

They have a lower tension than steel strings, and have the benefit of also working very well on more fragile cellos. Brilliant strings need about three to four days to settle before reaching their full tone quality.

  • A: Hydronalium/Stainless Steel over synthetic core
  • D: Hydronalium/Pure Silver over synthetic core
  • G: Tungsten/Pure Silver over synthetic core
  • C: Tungsten/Pure Silver over synthetic core

Possibly, the best on the market.

I had been using an old set of Tungsten Spirocore C & G, Larsen D & A… what the pros use. The sound was too metallic and uninspiring. I replaced those with Warchal Brilliant strings, and the cello came to life. Great tone; no metallic sound; good overtones. I’m impressed! This is all the more noteworthy considering that the instrument is a “young beginner’s” instrument, the Yamaha CV5 (later the ACV5). One would have thought that metal strings would be required, to bring out what little tone there was in the instrument itself. I simply love the result.
I also play violin and viola, and as soon as I put Warchal strings on those instruments, I declared that I will never go back to Evah Pirazzi or Dominant… the Warchals are superior.
Note: The brilliant stings on my violin gave performance suitable for solo work in a big auditorium. Bright, projecting. I later installed the Amber violin strings, which give me the sound of gut, which I used 50 years ago. Wonderful tone and overtones. Rich. On a cello, I would start with the Brilliants, and only go to Amber if you want a richer darker sound.
Side note: On each of my instruments, I replaced the 4/4 Wittner tailpieces with 3/4 Wittners, and the tone and sound improved. Less dampening of the strings at the bridge.
I recommend Warchal strings. They not only out-perform the expensive ones, but the price is so much less.
