The Pirastro Eudoxa cello strings are made out of hand wound and polished sheep gut cores. They produce an inspirational warm sound with enormous possibilities. This is a low tension string with excellent responsiveness. Altering the gauge by 1/2 PM changes the tension by 4%.
The A string has a ball end. The D, G, and C have a tie knot.

Hi, Eudoxa strings are among my favorites. Not the loudest, but wonderful color and flexibility of sound. These strings are going on a cello of mine under restoration which I hope to be playing later this year. It is a 1785 Francois Louie Pique.
I’m trying a lot of strings, listening for the best sound. It seems as though each of the four frequency levels presents its own physics problems. Right now, the combination that sounds best is: C — Passione Weich; G — Evah Pirazzi medium; D — Perpetual Edition; A — Permanent Weich. I did not find any of the four Eudoxa strings to be keepers. The best of them was the D string, which has a lot of light, beauty and character. But its tension is so low, its playability was poor in combination with its higher-tension neighbors. I am going to try the Permanent D string in weich and medium gauges, and also the Olive D, to see if they might let the instrument resonate a little more. I love the light and beauty of the Permanent Weich A string, and the warm roundness of the gut Passione Weich C string, which has enough bite thanks to its tungsten coating.

Not 100% sold on the Eudoxas yet, but that’s not a reflection on SW Strings, whose service is always excellent.
