Description
Pirastro Eudoxa viola strings are an ideal choice for the orchestral, chamber, or studio musician. These lower tension Eudoxa viola strings are extremely well balanced, offer a warm and smooth tone, and have an easier feel on the left hand.
The A and D strings have a ball-end, while the G and C strings have a tie knot end in the traditional gut style.
The D, G, and C are available in the Standard or Rigid style. The Rigid provides a darker and more powerful sound as compared to the standard strings. The Eudoxa-Oliv C string is also available for those that desire an alternative C for either the Eudoxa or Oliv sets.
Tone: Abundant warmth, well balanced
Playability: Reduced left hand resistance due to lower string tension
Stability: Affected by temperature and climate change

I’m a professor and freelance violinist/violist with a modern, 16.1″ Amati-pattern viola. This set (Eudoxa medium with the rigid D & G and a Eudoxa-Oliv C for more punch) brings out all the best qualities of my viola over all the strings I’ve tried. They’re easy to play with a rich and textured sound. What I like best is that they respond to a wide range of bow pressures: I can play really lightly or dig in as much as I’m physically capable of, and the strings yield a wealth of different colors. Evah Pirazzi Gold responded well but the sound was bland and uninteresting. I tried Warchal Amber because they advertise a complex, nuanced sound and response, but they were too edgy and strident on my viola and didn’t respond well to digging in. My luthiers also agree that so far my viola is happiest and gets its best sound with Eudoxas. I should add that my viola still has plenty of power: I have no trouble cutting through or blending as needed in my professional string quartet with the other players playing synthetic and steel strings.
